I love me some long weekends. I usually have huge ambitions for them. I’m famous for making grand sweeping statements like “THIS WEEKEND I SHALL CLEAN THE BASEMENT” (imagine deep echoing voice seeming to come from someplace other worldly). I usually don’t get much done because I always make other grand plans like, “This weekend we’ll get lots of fresh air” or “this weekend we’ll go apple picking” These usually prevail because it is very hard to pick apples while cleaning the basement and since cleaning the basement isn’t fun and apple picking is . . . . well you see, there’s obviously no other choice to be made. Thanks to the Jewish New Year, myself and The Girls have a four day weekend, which means maybe we will get a little of both done.
You see it is a Wednesday, that really is a Friday.
Today was a bento day for The Youngest, but not The Oldest. The Oldest chooses to get the mozzarella stick lunch at her school on Wednesdays. I know- Ewww. But I can’t stop her. (Well I could, but is this a battle I really want to have? No.)
First her snack. Very simple today, apple bunnies, caramel dip and jello in the container.
She was very happy with this and to stop the bunnies from browning I soaked them in diet lemon-lime soda. I was informed by The Youngest that, indeed, the apples did not brown and they “didn’t taste funny” like they sometimes do. (You see, I’ve also tried lemon juice and lightly salted water to prevent browning). So success I’d say!
This was lunch today. Ummm, I think I need to buy some food that uhhh, isn’t green for next week! She has the last (thank goodness) of the lime jello and some kiwi slices in the top tier. Alonf with cucumbers with dip and popcorn chicken in the bottom tier. I think I might be in a bento rut! Time to spend a couple hours at the farmer’s market! What do you guys do when you’re in a lunch rut?
Time for me to get to bed,
