A weekend and a day . .

This week has started again and with it comes the possibility of more snow! Let me tell you do I need a vacation! Now that the snow has been around awhile it all dirty and gray, mixed into it are the many leaf piles that lined the streets in the Fall. It looks ugly and even though I’m not looking forward to the prospect of yet another snowstorm, the idea of it all being whitened up by some fresh snowfall appeals to me. The only other thing that appeals to me right now would be if it all melted and the temperature was about 60 degrees. It doesn’t seem as though that will happen in the foreseeable future. Maybe it’s time I started making some sunny weather bentos!

This weekend our family went on a shopping trip to our local Trader Joe’s and then to an Oriental Grocery store. The Youngest had some Build-a-Bear gift cards from Christmas burning a hole in her pocket so we stopped there as well. Since all this is about a 45 minute car ride away I pack a couple of snack bentos for The Girls to eat in the car. The Husband’s answer to this? “Where’s mine?” Oops.

The Oldest’s is on top, in it she has mini saltines with cheddar cheese, baby carrots and cheese cracker bunnies.  The Youngest’s is below and she has mini saltines with baby Swiss, pitted cherries and some cheese cracker bunnies.  These were a success because we were able to skip lunch and instead ate out for an early dinner at around 3.  I will definitely do this again.

It seems again I am lacking in photos of The Oldest’s lunches.  I have to fix this, maybe I can rig up an extra light our something.  Hmmmm.

Anyway, here are some of The Youngest’s lunches and snacks:

This one has a sandwich thin with turkey, white american and mayo.  She’s been having alot of these lately, when I try to talk her into something else, she tells me that she LOVES these and please will I make it.  So I do.  This one also has celery and peanut butter in the red cup, half of a banana muffin, some clementine pieces and a tiny piece of Lindt chocolate.  The sea life picks and cup are from All Things for Sale (don’t forget to use the BENTOFABULOUS code at checkout) and i think I bought the box on Ebay.

This is one of her snacks in a long skinny bento box.  In it she has a fruit kabob on a swizzle stick with honeydew melon, around it I stuck some cherries I pitted and some clementine pieces (I ate the rest!). She also has some tiny yogurt pretzels and another half of the banana muffin. Yum.

Here’s The Youngest’s lunch from today, in it she has, yup you guessed it, a turkey and cheese sandwich on a bagel thin this time.  There is also a small lime jello and some grapes and a cheese flower in this tier.  In the bottom half she has strawberry and pineapple mini kabobs with cream cheese fruit dip in the heart cup.

Her snack for today is in a box that I purchased at The Disney Store, the lid has the aliens from Toy Story on it.  Before she could talk The Youngest could only say a few things and one of them was the “OOOHHHHH” noise that these aliens always do in the movies.  So she has alot of things with these little guys on them.  Anyway, in this little box she has clementine sections studded with red grapes and some mini saltines with baby swiss cheese in between.  The little package holds some fruit nuggets.

Well that’s just about it for now.  Don’t forget to visit today’s blog hops in the sidebar of this page, you never know what you might find!!

Have a great day and stay warm and if its warm already where you are then : P !

Till next time,

The mini saltines and cheese are great. I’m definitely going to try something like that the next time I take my little cousin to the zoo.

  5. I think I got so excited looking at your photos, I didn’t hit submit on my comment. My favorite lunch to pack for myself is called the picnic basket – fruit, vegetable, cheese & a mini muffin. Now I just need a Bento box!

I love your idea of the punch card to keep track of your bagged lunches!! Be careful with picking up a bento box, they’re like chips, once you get one you just can’t stop!! If you’re interested you can click on the All things for sale button on my sidebar. If you use the BENTOFABULOUS code at checkout you’ll get 5% off. It really is one of my favorite places to pick up bento supplies and the shipping is super fast! When I started making bentos I just used one of the smaller snapware containers you can find in Target, even though I have “fancier” boxes now, I still use that one a ton!
