So it’s Wednesday already, I can’t believe it. Been plugging away at bento lunches for everyone including The Husband, who’s trying to lose some weight and get off his blood pressure medication. In case you didn’t know, bentos are an excellent way to shed some pounds, their natural way of portion control really helps you eat less. The appealing arrangements of the foods helps you to slow down and appreciate your meal. Also, the philosophy of bentos are to showcase the healthy things with all their fascinating colors and textures. So I’m trying through bento box lunches to help my family eat healthier, who wouldn’t want that?
This is The Husband’s lunch from yesterday, he also had a turkey sandwich with cheese and pickles on a sandwich thin, but I didn’t take a photo of that. Anyway, he has a salad with crumbled turkey bacon, green grapes and some navel orange wedges. It’s all packed in one of those Zip Loc containers from Target. I’m longing to try out a set of Easy Lunch Boxes, but can’t really justify ordering anything else right after Christmas! Soon though, these containers are not really holding up well.
This was The Youngest’s lunch yesterday. In it she has some quinoa with vegetables, a recipe I adapted from my new Just Bento Cookbook that I got for Christmas. You should check it out, its excellent, you can find it at the Just Bento blog or in my Amazon widget to the right. She also has some leftover pork chop with some lite ranch to dip in the container and some cheese balls as a treat. In the other tier she has, red grapes and some home made whole wheat banana bread we made the night before. This was all packed in a Black and Pink Poodle bento box that Santa brought.
This is The Youngest’s snack today, she didn’t need her lunch because her class earned a pizza party from the teacher. Very exciting! This is packed in my trusty Lock n Lock box, which I love because it is so easy. There are some orange wedges, red and green grapes on teddy bear picks I purchased at The Dollar Tree a while back, the dreaded cheese balls and the famous banana bread again. She probably won’t finish this, but The Oldest has her piano lesson today so The Youngest can finish this in the car on the the way.
Still trying to come up with some more colorful options, Winter produce is really bumming me out!! If you’ve discovered anything bentofabulous let me know!! Have a great day!
Almost forgot! I posted this over at What’s for Lunch at Our House, go check it out, you’ll get some excellent ideas from other great bento mamas!
